In celebration of our fifth year in Dunfermline, this week we welcomed more than 250 children, teachers and parents from local primary schools into our fulfilment centre and announced it will be opening its doors to members of the public for guided tours later this summer.

The Year 5 pupils from local primary schools are the first to get a behind-the-scenes look at the fulfilment centre, which is the same size as 15 football pitches and holds millions of products. On the tour, they saw how we store, pick and pack products that are shipped from Dunfermline to customers around the world.

Tens of thousands of the products stored in Dunfermline belong to small businesses selling on Amazon who use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) to fulfil orders to customers across Europe.

The Dunfermline fulfilment centre is the third site in the UK to offer public tours, joining our buildings in Hemel Hempstead and Rugeley where tours have been taking place since 2015. Since launch, more than 6,000 people have been on a public tour in the UK.

We have a rich history of developing and introducing cutting-edge technology into our fulfilment centres to assist our employees in their roles and deliver for our customers. During the tours, people get to see this technology in action.

Paul Ashraf, General Manager at Dunfermline fulfilment centre, said: “We’re extremely proud of the efforts of everyone who works in our fulfilment centres and opening Dunfermline up to these tours is the perfect way to recognise all of their achievements.”

Jemma Thomas, a teacher at Crossgates Primary School, said: “We really enjoyed our tour and had a fascinating insight into how Amazon delivers customer orders from Dunfermline. From experiencing the sheer size of the building to understanding the technology that makes Amazon work, the staff and pupils from Crossgates found the trip both inspirational and educational. It’s also been a great way to support the ‘Developing the Young Workforce initiative that we are promoting with pupils at our school.”
