One of the biggest innovations for small businesses selling on Amazon over the last ten years has been Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), whereby we store, pick, pack and deliver items on behalf of smaller businesses to help them scale, increase sales and create jobs.

By handing over the heavy lifting of warehousing, payment processing, logistics, delivery returns and customer service to us, FBA enables our sellers to grow their business at a pace that matches their ambition. It also enables their products to be eligible for Amazon Prime, meaning they will have a gateway to millions of our most loyal customers.

Amazon sellers from more than 130 different countries around the world used FBA to fulfill orders to customers in 185 countries, with over 2 billion items shipped globally in 2016. As well as driving domestic sales, FBA helps sellers export to customers across the world. In the UK alone, businesses selling on Amazon achieved export sales of more than £1.8 billion in 2016, up 29% year-on-year.

“It is great to see UK businesses going from strength to strength, and our role is to continue to support their growth and success,” said Simon Johnson, Director of Seller Services UK. “By being part of FBA, sellers scale their business and boost sales abroad, while incurring lower costs than if they invested in their own warehousing and logistical solutions.”

In the UK, the number of businesses taking advantage of FBA has increased by more than 70% in the last year.
