This autumn, we’re launching a new Operations Apprenticeship in our fulfilment centres across the UK. In total, there will be 100 opportunities available – all of which add to our existing apprenticeships in IT and Facilities & Engineering currently available at our fulfilment centres across the UK and a range of Modern Apprentice programmes funded by Skills Development Scotland.

Operations Apprentices will undertake a 24 month programme of on the job learning, gaining hands on experience of logistics, leadership, safety and quality assurance. They’ll also benefit from mentoring from leading experts and get the chance to work on specialist projects alongside other apprentice colleagues. At the end of their programme, apprentices will graduate with recognised qualifications and the experience and skills needed to accelerate their career.

“Our fulfilment centres roles are at the heart of our business and so we’re really excited to announce our plans for an Operations Apprenticeship this autumn,” said Scott Wharton, our General Manager at the Rugeley Fulfilment centre where 44 of the Operations Apprenticeships will be available.

Our new Operations Apprenticeship adds to a number of initiatives Amazon undertake to help upskill the UK workforce.

Our broader apprenticeship programme offers apprenticeship opportunities in skilled supervisorial and technical roles in fulfilment centres across the country; our graduate and MBA programmes help accelerate the careers of hundreds of people in the UK; and for fulfilment centre employees our Career Choice programme pre-pays 95% of tuition up to £2,000 per year over four years. Our people can study a range of courses – from nursing, personal training to hospitality - at an accredited school, college or university. We’ve already had hundreds of people in the UK take advantage of this programme.

To support the next generation and help them build the skills needed for the digital age, we launched AWS re:Start, which helps 1,000 disadvantaged young people and military veterans move into high tech cloud-computing careers through training and work placements; and the Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary which provides funding for female students from low-income backgrounds studying innovation-related degrees at Churchill College Cambridge, Edinburgh University and Kings College London.

Applications for the Operations Apprenticeship are open until 28th July to candidates over 18 with GCSEs of Grade C or above in English and Maths. For more information, visit: https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship
