Today we are delighted to bring AmazonSmile to the UK to help customers support charities of their choice via donations from Amazon whenever they purchase. When customers visit smile.amazon.co.uk from their internet browser, they can select from one of ten UK charities, after which any time they make a purchase, 0.5% is donated to that charity – at no additional cost to our customers, our sellers, or to participating charities.

We wanted to ensure AmazonSmile was launched in time for the biggest shopping season of the year, which is why we’re pleased to have launched today so that customers shopping during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the Christmas holidays can do so whilst ensuring good causes receive donations as a result.

We believe the opportunity for charities is huge when you look at the numbers in the U.S – over the last four years we have donated over $62 million dollars to charities whenever customers made a purchase through AmazonSmile – so ultimately, the more UK customers shop through AmazonSmile, the more we will donate to UK charities.

The Legion's work is made possible thanks to the public's generous support and the money raised from customers using AmazonSmile will help us provide hope and support to the Armed Forces community wherever it's needed.
Ben France, Head of Corporate Partnerships for The Royal British Legion

We have ten great charities involved at launch, covering a range of good causes such as The Royal British Legion, Red Cross, Cancer Research, the RSPCA and Save the Children. In particular, we were keen to ensure that Magic Breakfast was available from day 1 for customers to choose, as we have a long-standing support for them through our Amazon in the Community programme, committing earlier in the year to fund the provision of over a million free breakfasts to children across the UK in the 2017/2018 academic year.

"We are proud to be a beneficiary of AmazonSmile and offer Amazon customers a simple and regular way to support us," added Ben France, Head of Corporate Partnerships for The Royal British Legion. "The Legion's work is made possible thanks to the public's generous support and the money raised from customers using AmazonSmile will help us provide hope and support to the Armed Forces community wherever it's needed."

AmazonSmile is our way of supporting good causes in the UK, and over time, we want to open this up to thousands more charities large and small so our customers can support causes close to their heart - whether that’s their local school, hospital or community initiatives. So next year we hope to enable all UK registered charities to sign up to AmazonSmile, so they can all receive donations from Amazon through choices made by customers.

Ultimately, we believe it will be a great way for all UK charities to raise their profile amongst millions of Amazon customers and raise additional funds without compromising their existing fundraising programmes.
