Amazon signs Care Leaver Covenant
Last week, Children’s and Families Minister Nadhim Zawahi announced the details of a ground-breaking scheme that will roll out over the next decade to create 10,000 work opportunities for young people who have left government care.
With 40% of care leavers who are aged 19-21 not in education or employment, versus 13% for this age group in total, this scheme recognises the need for businesses, charities and other government departments to implement programmes to help narrow this disparity. This will include the chance for work and internships, training and coaching to develop relevant life skills.
Every young person should receive positive opportunities that will help them successfully transition from adolescence to adulthood, and Amazon is proud to be one of the organisations in England to have signed the Care Leaver Covenant.
Those who have signed the pledge will work to support young people across the UK as they prepare to leave the care system. This will give care leavers opportunities to advance themselves, ensuring they are better prepared for future employment.
